I think I'd probably dreamed of being able to play piano like a master since I was in the womb. Nobody was going to buy me a piano when I was a kid and my fragmented attention span growing up (a process which continues to this day) would have got in the way if they did. I will of course never become a piano master, but oh boy, what a valuable instrument this can be, beyond a certain level of proficiency.

I had two older piano videos on YouTube, which I've taken down now, of pieces I wrote many years ago. They matched my skill level at the time I recorded them, that driving forward process I talk about elsewhere. They were developments of pieces I'd been playing on the guitar for some time. Moonlight Mingle is a more challenging piece and I posted another, Squeeze But Don't Squeeze on April 13, 2022.

I finished the current version of Moonlight Mingle in mid 2018, which is built upon the opening theme, which was composed on the guitar a long time ago. After trying it on the piano I came up with the contrasting sections and the coda. Substance Affection is actually a full band piece with a piano introduction. The core and the coda of the opening piano section were written several years ago and more recently I added the intro and the bridge between the repeats of the core.

Squeeze But Don't Sneeze began its life early in 2009 and most of it had come together by mid September of that year. The arrangement I produced back then is the last track on the mock album Symbiosis. In the mean time I've developed a solo piano arrangement. All the original melodies are mostly unchanged with just a little fine tuning here and there, where it was a bit sketchy, along with some filling out of the harmony and a completely new intro.
